San Diego Mayor’s Cup Flyer

The San Diego Mayor’s Cyber Cup is a competition between teams of middle and high school students from southern California acting as network administrators to protect their network against cyber attacks. Sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the National defense Industrial Association (NDIA), the city of San Diego, The University of California, San Diego, SAIC, and ESET Corporation, the competition is an outgrowth of local efforts to encourage student interest in computer science and information technology and to foster a greater awareness among young people of the opportunities and challenges of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

After a series of preliminary exercises and qualifications rounds, eight teams will be selected to compete in a final competition on March 10th at the Supercomputer Center at the University of California, San Diego. After an intense daylong competition, three winning teams will be awarded cash scholarships to support the computer learning activities at their respective schools.

In order to ensure that the widest number of schools and student are assured access to the Mayor’s Cyber Cup competition, schools are not charged a registration fee and the competition is fully funded by donations. We are actively seeking support from San Diego businesses and institutions to offset the cost of the competition. The cost of one of the eight teams participating in the completion is $650 and we are looking for donors who would be willing to support one or more of the teams during the final competition. This includes a full day of competition at UCSD, including lunch and an awards dinner following the competition. Other levels of sponsorship are welcome. For their generosity, sponsors will be invited to witness the competition and meet the young people who represent San Diego’s high tech future.

Sponsorships can be made through the San Diego Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association. For more information, contact Terry McKearney at 858-560-0967 or terry.mckearney@therangergroup.com.
